What’s New With Alpha

• Dawson state prison in Dallas has opened its doors to Alpha for both men and women.  Jan Lightfoot from Lovers Lane UMC will be heading a team for women.  The course will begin in July.  Approval has been given for the men’s units as well. 

Frank Dirnbauer, Prison Alpha Advisor, is seeking volunteers for Dawson & Hutchins prisons.  Please encourage your teams to prayerfully consider volunteering. 

Frank is willing to speak with churches to encourage interest.  He can be contacted at fdirn@verizon.net.

• More DFW Alpha Advisors have been appointed to assist Alpha churches.  Your assigned Advisor will be contacting you to introduce & make themselves available for questions and suggestions.

• I would like to ask your help in identifying a prayer warrior(s) from each Alpha church to participate in a prayer network for our region. 

Diane Schechner, Alpha Advisor & Prayer Coordinator for the region, will be leading the prayer team.  Prayer should be the first thing in planning and implementation of the Alpha course.  Please consider who you would recommend, speak with them about their willingness to serve and forward their name, contact information & questions to me at peggylively@alphausa.org.

 

New Alpha Resources

The course DVD’s have been redone.  All the talks by Nicky Gumbel have been updated but still follow the Course manuals.  The first talk formerly “Christianity Boring, Untrue, Irrelevant” is now “Is there more to life than this?”

Challenging Lifestyles is an excellent follow-on course based on the Sermon on the Mount, that has been available for some time but did not have a DVD to go with it.  It has been produced in 2 series with the 1st series now available.  The 2nd series release date has not been published.

More and more Alpha churches are emerging in the Dallas Fort Worth Region, Oklahoma and Arkansas.  The mission of Alpha is to make disciples of Jesus Christ from all walks of life and to transform our society, one life, one church and one community at a time.

Our vision for the DFW region is to equip at least 110 Churches and ministries to effectively use Alpha to make disciples of Jesus Christ in 2010. Our ultimate goal is to give every person in North Texas – regardless of age, background or status – an opportunity to hear the good news about Jesus Christ while attending an Alpha course near where they live, work or study.
